Conor McGregor receives apology from friend Jose Aldo following angry reaction to rematch offe

UFC legend Jose Aldo is back on good terms with Conor McGregor after launching a foul-mouthed rant at the Irishman earlier this month.

The Brazilian fought Jeremy Stephens on Jorge Masvidal’s latest Gamebred Boxing bill and was annoyed that their fight ended up being scored a draw.

McGregor, who famously knocked out Aldo in 13 seconds when they fought in the UFC, took to Twitter post-fight to suggest he and ‘Scarface’ run it back in boxing at some point in the future.

It seemed to be a friendly offer designed to make both men a ton of money, but Aldo didn’t take it that way and proceeded to let rip at ‘Notorious’ during his post-fight press conference.

He said: “Conor has a big mouth. He always talks a lot of s***.

“He has a scheduled fight. Conor, shut your f***ing mouth. We were supposed to fight before in the UFC. You run, and now you still talk s***.”

After taking some time to reflect, Aldo felt bad about his comments and he has since reached out to make amends with his former rival turned friend.

He told MMA Fighting: “I was a little heated. I had just re-watched the match in the locker room and I had won, everybody said it, and right after that a reporter asked me [about McGregor’s comments], and I hadn’t seen what Conor had said.

“I called him names, laughed a lot, because of that. But when I got to Brazil, I messaged him apologizing because I saw it wasn’t his intention to challenge me, he was trying to give me a push. I misunderstood [his intentions]. But we’re cool again. Conor is my friend. I wish him all the best.”

The 36-year-old says he is open to travelling to Ireland to train with McGregor.

Aldo added: “I have to learn a lot in boxing. There are some great Irish boxers, so if I have the opportunity to go to Ireland and train with Conor and the Irish, I’m super open to it.

“Especially pro boxing. It’s a new world, and I have to learn from the best. Conor has good boxing, he fought Mayweather in boxing, so he has a lot to teach me.”

Aldo is currently in talks to face a yet-to-be-named fighter in Saudia Arabia this July after being heavily linked to a clash with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.
